Milpitas High STEMgirls

Women make up half the world's population and workforce. However, only 28% of the STEM workforce are women.

STEM is a growing field, so the number of female workers needs to increase with it. But women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics face numerous obstacles throughout their lives and careers. In early education, girls may develop an interest in STEM but see societal norms and think of it as a masculine field. This phenomenon is undoubtedly the result of the lack of representation within STEM. Young girls do not have women to look up to within the sector. They may then opt for goals that are more socially "acceptable" for them. This issue continues throughout early education, higher education, and into the workplace. In fact, in 2019 only 21% of engineers and 19% of computer scientists are women.

Our Mission

We strive to bridge the gender gap in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics by empowering young women to pursue careers in STEM through mentorship, guest speaker events, tutoring, immersion tours, and college counseling.
